Officers reported they were contacted by a man who found a vehicle in Hanau covered with red-colored liquid

Around fifty cars have been marked with what seems to be blood from a person in the Germany's town of Hanau close to Frankfurt, according to police.

Automobiles, exterior walls and postboxes were vandalized, in some cases with prohibited symbols, they announced in a official communication.

Law enforcement state they were contacted in the late hours on Wednesday, when a resident observed that a vehicle in the Lamboy neighborhood of Hanau had been marked with a red-colored substance.

The liquid had been drawn in the form of a banned symbol, they stated.

Officers then located numerous other marked cars and building exteriors in the nearby vicinity.

Swastikas are banned in Germany under legislation prohibiting the public exhibition of Nazi symbols.

Officials state preliminary tests indicate the fluid was likely blood from a person.

"At present there remains no lead as to its source; officials are currently not aware of any injuries in connection with the incident," they stated.

Local authorities announced they were attempting "to unravel the case" and have appealed to the public for tips.

A senior representative stated the attack left him speechless and needed to be resolved promptly.

"This incident affects the very heart of Hanau and revives the trauma of the right-wing violent incident half a decade ago," he wrote on online, recalling the murder of nine individuals by a assailant aiming at individuals of migrant background in 2020.
