World Series Game 7 Attracts 51 Million Audience Members Across the United States, Canadian and Japan Markets.

The thrilling 11-inning matchup that saw the Dodgers defeat the Blue Jays by one run attracted a aggregate 51M viewers in the US, Canadian, and Japanese markets. MLB announced this is the highest-rated World Series Game 7 after the 1991 showdown between the Minnesota Twins and Braves.

Broadcast Ratings Details

The Saturday memorable game averaged over 27 million audience members on Fox networks, its Spanish-language channel and their digital services. Per ratings data, it was the second highest-rated broadcast of the week.

It also stands as the top-rated Fall Classic matchup after the 2017 edition Game 7 between the Dodgers and Astros, which averaged 29.07M. This represents a sixteen percent improvement over the previous Game 7 featuring the Washington Nationals and Astros, which attracted 23.19 million viewers.

In the weekly rankings, the sixth game ranked fourth, the fourth game ranked seventh, the fifth game was eighth, and the third game finished in 13th place.

International Viewership Figures

In the Canadian market, the game recorded 11.6M watchers on the Sportsnet network and the French-language TVA Sports. This was the highest-rated English program in Canada since the 2010 edition Vancouver Winter Olympics.

In the Japanese market, where the deciding contest began at 9 p.m. local time, it drew 12 million. This followed the previous Friday’s sixth game – where World Series MVP Yamamoto gave up a single run in six frames – drew 13.1 million spectators, making it the highest-rated World Series matchup on a sole broadcaster in the country.

Series Totals and Trends

The full seven-game World Series averaged 15.71M viewers on Fox, a 2% rise from the previous year’s Dodgers versus Yankees matchup. This marks the first time since 2015 and 2016 that the Fall Classic has recorded audience increases for two straight seasons.

Including the opening game broadcast on Univision, the total American average reached 16.1 million. The total Fall Classic viewership in Japan was 9.7M and 8.1M in the Canadian market.

The complete MLB Postseason on Fox, FS1 and FS2 recorded over 8 million viewers, an 8% increase compared to the previous year and Fox’s strongest playoff ratings after the 2017 season.

Major League Baseball reported that the World Series was televised in 203 nations and regions by forty-four media partners in sixteen various languages.
